02
COMPATIBILITY
- Works with any suction pump: fully passive — no power required on the skimmer side.
- Automatic self-adjustment: no manual tuning needed to maintain surface skimming.
- Fits through a 24″ man-way access for the core FWS series — in-tank deployment is straightforward.
03
INDUSTRIAL USE CASES
- Proven across industries: steel mills, power plants, dairies, food processing, paper mills, aquaculture, water treatment, and municipal water systems.
- Recovers valuable materials: plastic pellets (nurdles), oils, whey, fats, and grease can be skimmed and reclaimed.
- Maintains visual water quality: removes debris and scum from decorative ponds, display pools, golf course water features, cemeteries, and large aquariums.
- Environmental remediation: nurdle cleanup, duckweed and watermeal removal.
04
CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS
- Multiple sizes and materials: stainless steel or ABS industrial polymer to suit your site and contaminants.
- Weight range: 6 to 79 lbs depending on capacity — from the compact FWS00A56 for small sumps to the FWS00A811 for high-volume applications.
WHY FLOATING DEBRIS OIL SKIMMER MATTERS
How It Works: Self-Adjusting Skimming System (keep)
The Floating Weir Skimmer (FWS) acts like a waterfall — anything floating and flowable on the surface gets caught in thecurrent going across the weir. The flow is created by your pump removing fluid from the skimmer’s built-in sump. The floating weir skimmer is automatically self-adjusting and flow-controlled, and works with any pump that can pull suction. You adjust the cut coming off the surface (from 1/8″ to 2″ on the core series) simply by adjusting your pump’s flow rate. No manual adjustment needed — ever.
The faster the water moves across the weir, the more and heavier debris it can carry. So you tune your pump speed to the debris density: light floaters (algae, foam, duckweed) call for slower flow; heavier floaters (pulp, plastic pellets, larger organic scraps) call for more velocity.

Where It’s Used: Real-World Skimming Applications
The FWS has been used for skimming duckweed (watermeal), floating algae, and weeds from water in golf courses, cemeteries, and decorative pools. The caveat: the material has to be loose and not entangled into a mat or carpet — the surface skimmer works by carrying stuff along with the water across the weir and into the skimmer sump. From there it’s pumped away or gravity-drained into a lower area.
There are large aquariums that use the FWS for protein-skimming and debris removal. Paper mills use them for pulp offcuts and cardboard bits. Food processors use them for fats, grease, and organic waste. Aquaculture facilities use them for fish waste. Municipal water systems use them at intake points to reduce load on downstream filters. The common thread: if it floats and flows, the FWS can skim it.

BOTTOM LINE: The floating weir skimmer or FWS can be used to clean lots of junk and other stuff off the surface of water, so long as this stuff can flow with the water across the weir or waterfall of our skimmer. Give us a call if you need to remove some floaters. You may not have to be a pioneer since the chances are good we’ve already had some experience with that. It’s what we do, every day.
