WHY COMPRESSOR CONDENSATE OIL WATER SEPARATORS MATTER
When condensate from air and gas compressors contains oils or lubricants, untreated discharge can damage equipment and contaminate products. SkimOIL® CCS units safely and efficiently remove oils before discharge, helping facilities reduce hauling costs and maintain operational reliability. With turbulence-free plug flow, secondary gravity separation, and activated carbon polishing, CCS separators provide a simple, low-maintenance solution for industrial condensate management.
How Compressor Condensate Becomes a Problem
Inside your compressor is a built-in OWS that separates water from the internal lubricant oil. But that’s only part of the story…
During compression, dirt, vapor, and heat create a contaminated condensate. That oily moisture then makes its way through the compressed air system, collecting in air receivers, filter bowls, scale pits , and other low points.
If left untreated, this can:
- Damage pneumatic tools and equipment
- Contaminate products
- Create compliance violations
- Force expensive off-site disposal
What the CCS Separator Does
The external CCS-OWS safely and efficiently separates the oil from your condensate, removing oil before it enters drains, pits, or municipal systems. It’s rugged, reliable, and proven.

3-Stage Separation Process
1. Dual Turbulence-Free Separation Chambers
Water enters the first chamber and flows through a coalescer pack. Small oil particles coalesce and separate. Clean water flows by gravity into the second chamber and repeats the process.
2. Secondary Gravity Separation
A second chamber contains polypropylene balls or tubes to extend separation time and surface area. More oil is pulled from the water.
3. Activated Carbon Polishing (GAC)
A large volume external activated carbon filter finishes the job — polishing the effluent and removing sheens. Almost all municipal sewer systems accept this level of discharge.
Environmental Compliance = Required
Environmental regulations now classify air compressor condensate as hazardous or regulated oily waste. Discharging untreated condensate can lead to fines or shutdowns.
✅ Comply with discharge limits ✅ Eliminate hauling costs ✅ Avoid surprise inspections
What If Your Oil Won’t Separate?
Some compressor lubricants—like polyglycols and phosphate esters—have a higher specific gravity than water or contain additives that form stable emulsions. These can’t be removed by gravity separation.
Solution:
See the ConEVAP™ Compressor Condensate Evaporator
- No emissions
- No moving parts
- No more discharge
- Just evaporate the water — leave the oil behind
At 211°F, it’s just water. At 212°F, it’s vapor. Let’s get rid of it.
Let’s Size Your CCS System Right
- Whether you need 7.5 or 400 gallons — or just want to eliminate water entirely — we’ll help you select the right system the first time.
P.S. Don’t wait until your maintenance team finds oil in the scale pit — or your discharge test fails. Get the CCS or ConEVAP and handle your condensate once and for all.
